Ophthalmology (Eyes)

We are equipped to handle most of the common ocular disorders in dogs and cats, including corneal ulcers, dry eye, infectious conjunctivitis, and glaucoma.

We can easily and safely test your dog or cat's eyes for elevated pressure using a device called a tonometer. This test is painless and does not require sedation.

If glaucoma isn’t treated promptly—within hours to days—it can lead to permanent vision loss or even blindness. Pets that have experienced eye injuries should undergo this test, and we also recommend regular eye pressure measurements for breeds prone to developing glaucoma. Early detection allows us to begin treatment before the condition becomes irreversible. Please contact us to discuss whether your pet may be at a higher risk for glaucoma.

If you notice any of the following symptoms in one or both of your pet’s eyes, contact us immediately: dilated pupils, cloudiness in the cornea (the normally clear outer layer of the eye), red or bloodshot eyes, one eye appearing larger or more protruding than the other, squinting, or excessive tearing. Glaucoma is painful, so your pet may also rub or paw at their eyes or press their head against the floor or furniture more frequently than usual.
